What this course is for

Welcome to this course on composing music for picture. It's designed to help you make real progress as a composer writing to image, from the technical groundwork through to the musical craft itself.

A direct, informal tone

• Throughout the course I speak to you directly, one musician to another. It keeps the atmosphere friendly and makes everything easier to take in.
• In the music world that informality is the norm, and it breaks the ice quickly.
• Now and then the tone will be a little more formal, when I'm addressing the group as a whole rather than you individually.

How the course is organized

• Technique first: we get into the technical side straight away, in this opening module.
• Then depth: each module that follows goes into more detailed and more specific territory.
